What is this 'Missing Person' scam?
If media reports are to be believed, scammers in the market have come up with a new 'Missing Person' scam to dupe innocent people. Through this scam, scammers will send you WhatsApp messages from an unknown number. This message will contain information about a person being missing. There will be an attached photo with this message, as soon as you tap on the photo to see the person, a malicious app will be downloaded in your phone along with that photo.
A new app has been secretly downloaded in your phone, which you will not know about. This app is not even visible with other apps on the phone. Through this app, the hacker takes access to your entire phone, due to which there is a risk of your personal data and bank account being emptied.
How is your phone hacked?
As we told, you will receive a message through this 'Missing Person' scam. The photo sent with this message is equipped with a malicious link. In this, scammers send third party app APK files by embedding them, as soon as you click on this photo, that dangerous malware will also be installed in your device. Viruses, spyware and data theft programs etc. can be installed in these APKs.

1. Never click on the link and photo present in the message coming from an unknown number.
2. Avoid downloading APK files present in Google Play Store and App Store.
