Impact of strike on banking services

Banking services across the country will be affected on 24 and 25 March, as the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) have announced a two -day strike. The strike includes 9 major bank unions of the country, who are taking these steps regarding their pending demands. Employees of government and some private banks of Rajasthan will also participate in this strike.

Bank closure period

Banking services across the country including Rajasthan will already be closed due to weekly holidays on 22 and 23 March. After this, the banks will be closed for four consecutive days due to the strike on March 24 and 25. Due to this, the general public may face difficulty in many tasks like depositing cash, check clearance, loan transaction.

Major demands of bank union

The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) have raised many important issues behind this strike. Prominent among them are – making new recruitments in all banks, making temporary employees permanent, applying five days of work week and banning outsourcing. The union says that the work pressure on the employees is increasing and the number of employees is decreasing due to lack of permanent recruitments.

Outsourcing resentment on outsourcing

UFBU says that employees are being kept in banks through outsourcing by eliminating permanent jobs, which is violating the rights of workers. The union has demanded from the central government and bank management that outsourcing in the banking sector should be immediately banned and all temporary employees be regularized.

Strike effect on customers

This strike of bank employees will directly affect the customers. Banking services will be interrupted for four consecutive days, which may cause difficulty in cash deposit, withdrawal, passbook updates, check clearance, loan work. However, digital banking services such as net banking, mobile banking, cash withdrawal from ATMs and online transactions will be normally employed.

Possibility of long queues in Rajasthan

Before and after the strike i.e. on 21 and 26 March, huge crowds can be seen in banks. Whenever there is a long holiday or strike, customers reach bank branches in large numbers in the first and after days. Long queues of customers are likely to be found in big cities like Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Bikaner of Rajasthan.

Appeal of bank unions for customers

The United Forum of Bank Unions have regretted the inconvenience to customers, but they say this strike is necessary for the good of the staff and banking system. Union leaders have appealed to the customers not to come to the bank on 24 and 25 March and settle their necessary tasks before or after.

ATM and digital services will be operational

Bank unions have clarified that this strike will only affect functioning in bank branches. The bank's digital services and cash extract facility from ATMs will be normal. However, if cash is not filled in bank branches during the strike, there may be a shortage of cash in ATMs at some places. Therefore, customers have been advised to arrange cash in time.

staff position

The bank union alleges that they tried to talk to the government and bank management several times, but their demands are constantly being ignored. Union leaders say that if their demands are not met soon, the movement will be intensified in future.

Reference to previous movements

Such movements have been organized by bank unions many times before. Last year too, UFBU went on strike with demands like salary amendment, new recruits and five -day work week. Even then banking services were affected across the country. Bank unions say that they have been standing in front of the government before their demands and this time they will also keep their point firmly.

Precautions for customers

Customers are advised to deal with their necessary banking work by 21 March so that any inconvenience can be avoided from 22 to 25 March. Especially traders, small businessmen and those whose financial transactions depend on cash, they will have to prepare in advance.
