Now there is talk of increasing it again.
Update from the government
Secretary of Financial Services Department M Nagaraju has said that the government is considering increasing the limit of deposit insurance from Rs 5 lakh (RBI Update). Work is going on on this proposal. He said this in a press conference in the presence of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Nagaraju said that the issue is to increase the deposit insurance limit. It is being actively considered. Whenever the government approves it, we will issue its notification. Nagaraju refused to comment on the crisis of New India Co-operative Bank. He said that RBI is looking into this case.
90 percent of New India Co-operative Bank customers will get full money
On the other hand, according to media reports, Economic Affairs Secretary Ajay Seth said that the bank is well-regulated under the supervision of RBI. The entire banking sector should not be doubted due to the crisis in one unit. Action is being taken against the guilty units. According to media reports, out of 1.3 lakh account holders of New India Co-operative Bank, the entire amount of 90 percent comes under DICGC insurance, which is five lakh or less.
