RBI has clarified
If you are also using a bank locker to keep your valuables. So for your information, let us tell you that the Reserve Bank of India has set guidelines regarding bank lockers (RBI rules for bank lockers). According to this, it has become clear what customers can keep in a bank locker. Along with this, the amount of compensation in case of loss due to theft and negligence of the bank has also been clearly stated.
Cash is prohibited
RBI's guidelines mention such things that cannot be kept in the locker. Even after this, if the customer keeps those things in his bank locker, then the bank will not be responsible for the loss. Keeping cash in a bank locker is prohibited, that is, you cannot keep cash in the locker (bank locker me cash). Some time ago, a person from Uttar Pradesh did this. Termites ate 5 lakhs kept in his locker and the bank refused to return the money citing the rules.
You cannot keep these things in a bank locker.
Along with cash, weapons, drugs, poison, explosives, perishable items like vegetables, fruits etc., radioactive material or illegal items (Illegal items in bank locker) cannot be kept in the bank locker. In such a situation, it becomes the responsibility of the customer to follow the prescribed guidelines. If they do not do so, the chances of accepting their claim become very less.

According to the RBI guidelines, customers can keep jewellery, property papers, birth and death certificates, important documents, marriage certificates, insurance policies and Kisan Vikas Patra etc. in the bank locker.
How much compensation will be given?
RBI has also clarified the responsibility of the banks. It has also been clarified that the bank will have to pay compensation for the loss caused due to negligence. According to RBI guidelines, the responsibility of banks will be up to 100 times the annual rent of the locker.
In simple words, if the annual rent of a bank locker is Rs 1000 and the stuff kept in it goes missing, then the customer will get compensation of 100 times the rent i.e. Rs 1 lakh.
