This attack has happened before

Israeli spyware companies have been facing such allegations before. Canada-based Internet Watchdog Citizen Lab says that Paragon Solutions sell high-end surveillance software to government agencies to protect crime and national security. But it is a matter of investigation to use such tools for monitoring journalists and people of civil society. Earlier, a case of targeting WhatsApp users by the spyware of Israeli company Pegasus has been reported, which had a lot of controversy. META has informed American agencies about this new cyber attack and further investigation is on.
