WhatsApp for iOS now supports view-once media on linked devices
03 Feb 2025
WhatsApp has introduced a new feature in its latest iOS beta update, version 25.2.10.76, available via the TestFlight beta program.
The feature, dubbed "View once media on linked devices," is being rolled out to select beta testers.
The update comes after a similar one for Android users, as part of WhatsApp's strategy to offer a consistent user experience across both platforms.
New feature enhances functionality
Feature details
With the new feature, users can open "view once" images, videos, and voice messages directly from their linked device.
Earlier, WhatsApp restricted both sending and opening of such media on linked devices.
This limitation made things difficult for users who often switch between their phone and companion devices such as desktops.
The improvement spares the trouble of checking a primary device every time such an image or video comes.
Update maintains core privacy protections
Fact
Despite expanding accessibility to linked devices, WhatsApp still continues to uphold its core privacy protections. These safeguards include end-to-end encryption and restrictions that prevent recipients from screen recording, exporting, or forwarding the content.
