Netflix's Bank of Dave: The Loan Ranger is capturing audiences with its tale inspired by the real-life exploits of businessman David Fishwick, portrayed by Rory Kinnear. Yet, the true David Fishwick has an equally compelling narrative.

The 53-year-old Lancashire native left school at 16 without any formal qualifications and went on to establish David Fishwick Minibus Sales, which would ascend to become Britain's leading minibus provider.

In response to major banks refusing to lend to his customers in the wake of the 2007-2008 financial crisis, he set up Burnley Savings and Loans. His career had humble beginnings, with one of his initial jobs being on a construction site earning just £27.50 a week.

Fishwick's entrepreneurial journey saw him refurbishing old cars for resale, trading budget clothing, and moonlighting as a DJ - a gig that led him to his future wife, Nicky, at a nightclub.

Nicky once critiqued his music selection as terrible, prompting Fishwick, ever the smooth operator, to challenge her to choose a better record, provided she scribbled her number on its cover, reports .

Now his spouse for three decades, Nicky strives to keep her husband's feet on the ground despite his growing celebrity status.

He shared with Lancashire Live: "We have been together over 30 years and I was down yesterday on television and then I was with and I met half a dozen people from the telly.

"I come home and said to Nicky, 'I've met Simon Cowell or I've met this guy or that lady' or somebody mega famous off the telly.

"And she will say, 'never mind all that nonsense, Dave, do you want corned beef hash or cottage pie for your tea? ' And it grounds you immediately."

When it comes to his fortune, the figures suggest he's sitting pretty on a tidy sum, estimated to be in the ballpark of $10 million (£8.2 million) cash accumulated through a range of entrepreneurial exploits.

He's not only raked it in from business but has also hit the bestseller lists, with his book 'Bank of Dave: How I Took On the Banks' offering pearls of wisdom to budding entrepreneurs.

Dave isn't just about making money; he's got a knack for inspiring others too, touring as a motivational speaker and spilling the beans on his triumphs both at home and internationally.

When the suit comes off, this entrepreneur is very much family-oriented, playing the roles of both doting dad and fun-loving grandad.
