WhatsApp is a messaging app, a calling app, and much more. Soon, the platform will have its own dialer tab for iPhone users. Having a dialer means you can rely on the messaging app itself to call someone who will likely also have a WhatsApp account. Some may question the need for such a feature, but it's clear that the Meta-owned platform wants to be a one-stop hub for all your needs, including calls.
iPhone dialer app on WhatsApp
Information about this upcoming feature came via WaBetaInfo this week, which says that when you click on the + icon on your WhatsApp feed, the dialer app will open. We have previously heard about a similar function on the Android version and now it looks like the platform is ready to offer the same to iPhone users as well.
Having its own dialer app means WhatsApp users don't have to rely on the default dialers offered by Google and Apple. Android users get the option to use third-party apps as their default calling or messaging app and soon, Apple will provide this option for iPhone users with the new iOS 18.2 and later updates.
The only major caveat to using the WhatsApp dialer would be that you're completely locked into the messaging app's ecosystem, meaning every call you make will be a WhatsApp call. This may work in most countries, but for people in India, where feature phones still make up a large portion of the market, WhatsApp dialer support may not be the ideal option.
