NEW DELHI: PIB FACT CHECK has warned users about a fraudulent SBI Rewards scheme that urges download of APK files, with PIB stressing that SBI does not send such links.
The government's Press Information Bureau (PIB) has warned customers to be aware of an 'SBI Rewards' scam being used by fraudsters. In a post on a social media platform X, warned against downloading unknown files or clicking on links.
PIB alerted users on X that beware! Have you also received a message asking to download and install an APK file to redeem SBI reward points? PIB said that SBI never sends links or APK files on SMS / WhatsApp. Never download unknown files or click on such links.
RBI to introduce real-time AI-driven system to check cyber frauds: Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is also working on artificial intelligence (AI) that will enable it to warn individuals about financial frauds in real-time.
As per the plan, different banks will tap into a central bank data repository hosting information about different types of frauds and their perpetrators and the AI-based alert system will flag suspicious transactions.
