The latest WhatsApp update allows users to add, manage, and save contacts from linked devices to the app.
Hyderabad: WhatsApp has announced the launch of a new feature that will make it easier for users to privately save and manage their contacts on the messaging app, no matter what device they are using.
Previously, WhatsApp users could only add contacts from their primary mobile device by typing a phone number, scanning a QR code, or saving a contact card. Now, users will be able to add and manage contacts from linked devices, including WhatsApp Web and the Windows app.
WhatsApp-specific contacts
WhatsApp is also allowing users to save a contact on the messaging app as a WhatsApp contact. Alternatively, they can still choose to sync these contacts with their phone. Users will also be able to restore such contacts in case they lose their phone or change devices.
The Meta-owned company said that WhatsApp Contacts can help users separate personal and business contacts when managing multiple WhatsApp accounts on their phone. It can also provide privacy to users when they are sharing their phone with others.
WhatsApp Usernames
In a blog post, WhatsApp explained that these updates will also eventually make it possible to manage and save contacts by usernames, which is expected to add an additional step of privacy as it will allow users to add or send messages to someone on WhatsApp without revealing their phone number.
