Bank Holiday Today: On the birth anniversary of legendary Indian poet Maharshi Valmiki, the banks in Shimla, Guwuhati and Bengaluru are closed today. Banks will remain shut today in honor of Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti. However, today is also the birth anniversary of Kati Bihu. This day, known as the Pragati Diwas, devotees of the Valmiki sect honour Valmiki Rishi as a god. Shobha Yatras, or processions, are an element of the festivities, where participants sing bhajans and devotional hymns. Devotees take part in charity initiatives like lighting diyas and feeding the less fortunate along with the spiritual celebrations.This day marks the birth anniversary of the renowned poet Maharshi Valmiki, popularly known as Adi Kavi. On this day, devotees honor Maharshi Valmiki, the writer of the Ramayana, one of the most important Hindu epics after the Geeta.Various state governments have declared a public holiday for colleges, schools, government offices, and banks today on the occasion of Valmiki Jayanti. As per reports, Uttar Pradesh's schools and institutions will be closed on the birth anniversary of Maharshi Valmiki. The Yogi Adityanath government has observed October 17 as a holiday in honour of the legendary poet's contributions to society.A number of other states, including Punjab, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh, have observed a public holiday today on the occasion of Valmiki Jayanti.RBI divides holidays into three main categories: Real Time Gross Settlement Holidays, holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, and Bank Closing of Accounts.
