Bank Holiday Today: In observance of Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti and Kati Bihu, banks will be closed on October 17. According to the RBI, banks in Bengaluru, Gujarat, and Shimla will be closed today.

The famous poet Maharshi Valmiki, sometimes referred to as Adi Kavi, was born on this day in history. One of the most significant Hindu epics after the Geeta, the Ramayana, was written by Maharshi Valmiki, whom followers revere on this day.
On the occasion of Valmiki Jayanti, some state governments have proclaimed today a public holiday for banks, universities, and government agencies. According to sources, on the anniversary of Maharshi Valmiki’s birth, all schools and institutions in Uttar Pradesh would be closed. To honor the great poet’s services to society, the Yogi Adityanath administration declared October 17 to be a holiday.
In honor of Valmiki Jayanti, many additional states, including Punjab, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh, have declared today a public holiday.
