People store crucial documents and trinkets in bank lockers. Surveillance cameras, limited access zones, and alarms prevent bank goods from being lost.

The Reserve Bank of India has guidelines on locker storage and the bank’s obligation for theft or loss.

RBI bank locker rules listed how to renew agreements. By December 31, 2023, account holders with agreements filed before that date have to sign and submit an updated agreement to their bank.

Who may open a bank locker and what are the requirements?

Some banks need savings or current accounts for locker access and other services.

A PAN or Aadhaar card and a current picture are needed to register for the locker service.

Signing the locker agreement: The bank gives a paper explaining the locker service to set up a locker. Both parties must sign this legally binding agreement.

Lockers may be single-tiered or multi-tiered and vary from modest to enormous. There may be a wait-listed policy and several variables affect initial allocation. The consumer obtains a key number after allocation, and the bank has its master key.

Payments: Banks usually need a set deposit or cash security deposit. Locker rental prices vary by branch and size.

Current bank lockers are secure. To be cautious, consider insuring your goods as most banks disclaim liability for lost things.

Specify a locker access candidate in case of account holder death.

As per the new guideline, the bank’s maximum responsibility for user losses caused by carelessness will be 100 times the current locker fee yearly, excluding natural disasters.

In the case of an earthquake, flood, lightning strike, thunderstorm, or other natural catastrophe caused by the customer’s carelessness, the bank will not be liable for locker damage or loss.
