New Delhi: Bank employees are on strike today 28 August 2024. If you are also thinking of going to a bank branch and handling banking work, you may be in for a shock. Due to the bank strike, employees are not working or understaffed in many branches, due to which long queues of customers are formed in banks. Banking services and transactions will be affected due to a nationwide strike by the All India Bank Employees Union today.
Why is the strike taking place?- This strike is being conducted as a protest against the issuing of charge sheets to 13 staff union officials by the Bank of India. General Secretary of AIBEA CH Venkatachalam informed about this and also informed about the demands of the union. In a post on social media, he wrote, that AIBEA had announced a strike on August 28, 2024, against the political attack on the trade unit. AIBOC, NCBE, BEFI, AIBOA, INBOC, INBEF associations have announced to participate in this strike.
Who is joining the strike?- Members of around five other bank unions are also joining the strike, including United Forum of Bank Unions, All India Bank Officers Confederation, National Confederation of Bank Employees, Bank Employees Federation of India and All India Bank. Officers Association involved.
Why is the bank closed today?- So far CH Venkatachalam has not given any official information about the bank strike. Also, nothing has been said from RBI. Customers are advised to call their nearest branch of SBI, ICICI, HDFC or other banks to check whether the bank is operational or not.
What is the objective of the strike?- AIBEA has called this strike against action taken by the Bank of India against 13 officials of the Kerala Bank Staff Union for participating in the 23rd Biennial Convention. AIBEA in its statement termed the strike as a political interference and attack against the union and protested the punitive action taken against the union workers. Other bank unions have also backed the strike, calling it an attempt to weaken organized labour.
