AIBEA general secretary C.H. Venkatachalam told a news agency, “The proposed strike is to show our protest against the action of the Bank of India in filing a chargesheet against all 13 office bearers of the Bank of India Staff Union-Kerala under political pressure.” Venkatachalam also said that four of the employees named in the chargesheet are ex-servicemen, three of whom had participated in the Kargil war. Today's bank strike will be joined by members of about five other bank unions including United Forum of Bank Unions, All India Bank Officers Confederation, National Confederation of Bank Employees, Bank Employees Federation of India, All India Bank Officers Association, etc.
