The mother, brother, wife, and son of jailed Kannada superstar Darshan, who had not paid him a visit before, saw him on Monday at the Central Prison of the Parappana Agrahara, which is located outside of Bengaluru. According to police sources, Darshan was visited on Monday morning by his mother Meena, brother Dinakar, wife Vijayalakshmi, and son Vineesh.
During the encounter, Darshan and his mother, Meena, became distraught, to which the actor’s brother offered consolation. But the special treatment Darshan received—allowing his family to visit—has sparked controversy in Karnataka.
Notably, Darshan’s family had not seen him throughout his time in police custody or during his transfer to jail. Darshan, his girlfriend Pavithra Gowda, and fifteen other people have been taken into custody on suspicion of killing Renukaswamy, a 33-year-old Chitradurga resident whose wife is expecting their first child.
The investigation found that Renukaswamy, a major Darshan admirer, had disparaged Pavithra Gowda on social media. It is said that the victim was abducted, taken to Bengaluru, imprisoned in a shed, and tortured till she died. Darshan will remain in court until July 4.
