The Aadhaar card serves as a crucial identity document for every Indian citizen, required for numerous tasks. In today's digital age, many Aadhaar-related services can be accessed online, reducing the need to visit an Aadhaar centre.
Linking Multiple Aadhaars to One Mobile Number
For accessing online Aadhaar services, it's essential to link your Aadhaar card with your mobile number. A common question arises: Does each Aadhaar cardholder need a separate mobile number? The answer is no. Aadhaar cards of any family member, regardless of age, can be linked to a single mobile number.
The Unique Identification Authority of India ( UIDAI ) has clarified that multiple Aadhaar cards can be linked to a single mobile number. This means family members can use one main member's phone number for their Aadhaar linkage.
Benefits of Linking Mobile Numbers to Aadhaar
Linking your mobile number to your Aadhaar card allows for the generation of OTPs required for various online services, facilitating OTP-based authentication. UIDAI recommends that all Aadhaar cardholders link their mobile numbers to their Aadhaar. If a cardholder doesn't have a mobile phone, they can use a family member's number for the linkage.
