A reward of Rs 1 lakh has been given by the district police for information leading to the identity of the assassins of Vishav Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Vikas Bagga. The police have also made public the images of two suspects riding a scooter and escaping that were taken by CCTV.

In connection with the incident, Nangal SHO Rajneesh Chaudhary was also fired by Ropar Range DIG Nilambari Jagdale.
The president of the VHP unit in Nangal, Bagga, was shot and killed on Saturday night when he was at his candy store in Nangal town. Two young people arrived to his business at 4:47 p.m. on a scooter without a license plate. One of them was wearing a helmet, while the other had his face covered with a cloth. The CCTV footage was taken from the surrounding neighborhood.
The young person wearing the helmet approached the store without taking it off and came back a minute later. He took off on the scooter with his accomplice, who sat on the scooter and continued to wait for him. According to Bagga’s post-mortem examination report, he was shot in the head at close range.
Yesterday on Chandigarh-Una road in Nangal, a sizable gathering of top BJP officials and members, headed by the party’s state president Sunil Jakhar, held a dharna demanding the culprits be taken into custody.
According to Ropar SSP Gulneet Singh Khurana, the police possessed some crucial information on the two defendants. According to the early investigations, both suspects had escaped towards the Hoshiarpur district after committing the crime, he added. The SSP continued by saying that more individuals had also been apprehended and were being questioned.
