Kawhi Leonard trade from Clippers to Raptors is finally happening

After lots of talk about the Los Angeles Clippers and Toronto Raptors working out a deal to move star player Kawhi Leonard back to the Canadian team, a deal is done, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

In a report released on Monday the teams “have both agreed to complete the blockbuster trade that will send Kawhi Leonard back to Toronto.”

The deal is a long time coming. The two franchises first came to an agreement back on June 30, but they had to put the brakes on it because of the “NBA’s investigation of the Clippers for salary cap circumvention,” per ESPN.

What’s in the Kawhi Leonard trade?

So, what’s in a deal? A lot. According to the report, the Clippers will get “Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, two unprotected first-round picks, one first-round pick swap and two second-rounders” in the swap. The Raptors will get Leonard.

It’s certainly a coming-home moment for Leonard. He helped the Raptors snag their very first NBA championship in 2019, and it’s a moment that’s still fresh in the memory of Raptors fans. He eventually left to join the Clippers, but now he’s back.

These two teams will come up against each other during the regular season, of course. The Raptors head to Los Angeles on Nov. 2 for a showdown, and the Clippers will go to Toronto on Jan. 1.
