PM Modi Meets Iran President Pezeshkian, Calls For Peace & Safe Navigation Amid West Asia Conflict

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian ahead of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi and discussed bilateral ties, West Asia tensions and maritime security. PM Modi stressed resolving issues through dialogue and diplomacy while highlighting the need to protect freedom of navigation, commerce and the safety of seafarers.

New Delhi [India], September 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday underscored the need for continued efforts to ensure lasting peace and stability in West Asia amid the conflict, safeguarding freedom of navigation and commerce and the safety and well-being of seafarers, during his meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines ahead of the 18th BRICS Summit in the national capital.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, the two leaders discussed various aspects of the bilateral relationship and exchanged views on recent developments in West Asia, as the region faces heightened uncertainty amid the conflict and disruptions affecting the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

"Prime Minister reiterated India’s consistent position that all issues must be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy. He also underscored the need for continued efforts to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region, safeguarding freedom of navigation and commerce, and the safety and well-being of seafarers," the MEA statement read.
