Portugal international has thrived in a new role under Xabi Alonso.

Pedro Neto has signed a new long-term contract with Chelsea, keeping him at the club until 2032.

The Portuguese forward had attracted transfer interest during the summer window, with Manchester City and Tottenham both previously linked with the winger, but he eventually remained at Stamford Bridge.

The former Wolves player has established himself as a regular in the first team under new manager Xabi Alonso, playing in the unfamiliar role of right wing-back and impressing there.

The 26-year-old has now pledged his future to the club by signing a new six-year contract that will keep him in west London for the foreseeable future.

He has made 108 appearances for the Blues and has registered 40 goal contributions in that period.

“It’s an unbelievable moment,” Neto told the club’s official website.

“From when I arrived, I have always felt that the people here helped me a lot. I feel at home here, and I feel that I want to achieve more things here.

“We have had some good moments here as a group and also for me individually, and now I want to have more of those moments. I’m really excited because I think we can achieve a lot of things together.”

Neto first began at wing-back against Brighton and Hove Albion, when the Blues won 4-3, and he was used there again in last weekend’s 2-1 defeat at Arsenal.

He was deployed there once more after Alonso made sweeping changes against Leeds in midweek, reacting at half-time with four substitutions and a tactical reshuffle that saw the 4-3-3 switched to his preferred 3-4-2-1 system.

Neto featured as a wing-back, while match-winners Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer caused major problems as free-roaming No 10s behind Danny Welbeck, who led the attack.
