The starting price of iPhone Duo in India has been kept at Rs 2,99,900, while for the top model with 2TB storage, customers will have to spend Rs 4,49,900.

The starting price of this phone in America is $ 1,999, which is approximately Rs 1.90 lakh in Indian currency. In such a situation, if we compare the starting prices of both the countries, this phone appears to be almost 58% more expensive in India. However, just looking at the list price is not enough to understand this difference. Taxes, import duties and supply chain costs also affect the final price of the phone.

Sales tax is also added to the US price

To understand the difference in iPhone prices in India and America, it is important to look at the tax systems of both the countries. In the US, the price of $1,999 quoted by Apple does not include sales tax. There this tax may vary according to the state. According to media reports, sales tax in America can be around 6 to 10%. According to this, the actual purchase price of the phone can reach around $2,200. On the other hand, the iPhone Duo's price of Rs 2,99,900 in India already includes 18% GST. Therefore, on direct comparison of the prices of the two countries, the difference may appear greater than the actual situation.

The cost of phones is increasing in India due to imports

Apple has been increasing manufacturing of iPhone in India for the last few years. Lower import costs on models manufactured in the country help the company control prices. But in the case of foldable iPhone Duo, the situation is said to be different. Currently this phone is being imported into India as a completely finished unit. Manufacturing of foldable smartphones is also more complex than that of normal phones. Extreme precision is required in preparing its screen, hinges and other parts.

Apart from this, iPhone Duo being imported into India may be affected by around 28% import duty. This increases the cost of the phone and has a direct impact on the price of the phone. It may take time for Apple to start local production of this model in India.

What will be the price after removing tax and import duty?

If 18% GST is excluded from the price of iPhone Duo in India of Rs 2,99,900, then its price remains around Rs 2,54,153. After this, after excluding the estimated 28% import duty, the price comes to around Rs 1,98,557. This amount is equivalent to approximately $2,087. At the same time, the list price of the phone in America is $1,999. In this way, after excluding taxes and import costs, the difference in the starting prices of the two countries remains around $88. However, this is an approximate calculation. Actual cost may vary depending on Apple's supply chain, import regime and applicable tax structure. Therefore, it cannot be considered as the actual production cost of the phone or an accurate figure of the company's profit.

Phones may become cheaper once local manufacturing starts

The possibility of price reduction of iPhone Duo in the coming time will depend on Apple's manufacturing strategy in India. If the company and its manufacturing partners start producing foldable iPhones in India, some of the import costs may be reduced. However, it is not easy to start mass production of the first generation foldable phone. Manufacturing technology like screens and hinges requires investment, quality control and development of production capacity. As the company gains experience in producing this technology, the possibility of cost reduction may increase. At present, customers buying iPhone Duo in India have to pay higher prices. The main reason for this is that the phone is a first generation product and is imported into India.

According to Apple, pre-orders for iPhone Duo in India will start from October 16. At the same time, its sales are said to start from October 23.
