The civic body carried out demolition action at several locations, including Gandhi Nagar, Mayur Vihar and Satya Niketan, targeting buildings constructed in violation of safety norms and building regulations.

According to officials, in Shahdara district, East Delhi, the MCD demolished a three-storey building that had been illegally constructed in Dharampura, under the jurisdiction of the Gandhi Nagar police station.

Demolition action was also underway in Mayur Vihar Phase 2 and parts of the South Zone, including Satya Niketan, officials said.

The action came a day after the MCD conducted demolition drives at 11 locations across its 12 zones and sealed four properties. Since September 1, the civic body has taken demolition action against 213 illegal constructions and sealed 109 properties.

The crackdown follows the September 6 collapse of a building in Satya Niketan, in which seven people were killed. The incident prompted the MCD to step up inspections and enforcement against dangerous and unauthorised structures across the city.

On Sunday, a four-storey building in Gandhi Nagar was evacuated after it suddenly tilted. The MCD directed the owner to demolish the structure voluntarily.

Officials said that if the owner failed to comply, the civic body would initiate demolition proceedings under the applicable rules.

The MCD said its action against dangerous and unauthorised buildings, as well as violations of Delhi's Master Plan and building by-laws, would continue across all 12 zones.
