Car Care Tips: Running out of petrol in a car is a common thing, which can happen at any time. Many times, even after seeing less petrol on the fuel gauge, people keep driving thinking that they will still go for a few more kilometers. But, if the car’s petrol completely runs out during this time, the engine may stop suddenly. In such a situation, the biggest question that arises is whether the engine gets damaged due to running out of petrol or does it affect the fuel pump?
Is there any problem in restarting the car and if this happens again and again, can there be a loss of thousands of rupees? Often people are confused about this question, but if we actually look at it, let us know which part of the vehicle it affects.
Does the car suddenly stop before the petrol runs out?
If seen, the car does not stop suddenly after running out of petrol. When the petrol starts running out, the fuel pump does not get anything to deliver petrol to the engine. The fuel supply gets interrupted before the petrol runs out. Due to this the engine stops. In most of the cases this does not happen suddenly, the car first gives light jerks, the speed starts decreasing and only then the engine of the car stops.
Which part of the vehicle is affected?
Running out of petrol while the car is moving not only affects the engine but also other parts of the car. In fact, when the petrol runs out and the car suddenly stops, the fuel pump suffers more damage. Usually the fuel pump is immersed in petrol, due to which the presence of petrol works to keep the pump cool and lubricate it. As soon as the fuel tank becomes empty, the pump gets heated and rotates. Due to this it can spoil quickly.
Not only the engine but also the tank is affected.
If you look at it, when the car jerks after running out of petrol, it affects not only the engine but also the fuel tank. Actually, when the tank becomes empty, the dirt reaches the filter of the fuel pump and jams it. This increases the risk of the fuel filter getting clogged or dirt getting into the fuel injector.
