Birmingham, 14 September 2026: After the trophy dispute between Asian Cricket Council and Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, the troubles for Pakistan cricket are not ending. After the humiliating 0-3 defeat in the three-Test series against England, Sanatan Sanstha ICC has now taken heavy action against the Pakistan cricket team. Along with imposing a heavy financial penalty on Pakistan for slow over rate in the third Test played in Birmingham, 11 important points of the World Test Championship (WTC) have been deducted.

Pakistan's performance in the entire Test series against England was very disappointing. In the first Test match played at Leeds, Pakistan was defeated by one innings and 103 runs. After that, there was a defeat of 194 in the Lord's Test. Even in the third and last test played in Birmingham, England defeated Pakistan by 8 wickets. Even after taking into account all the relaxations of time during the match, the Pakistani team could bowl 11 overs less in the stipulated time. In response to this serious negligence, action was taken by the ICC match referee Ranjan Madugalle and the on-field umpires, as a result of which a heavy financial penalty of 50 percent of the match fee was imposed on the entire team.

• Pakistan pushed to 9th position in WTC points table

Not only the financial penalty, Pakistan has lost 11 World Test Championship points due to slow over rate. Due to this drastic decision, Pakistan's position in the WTC points table has become more complicated. Pakistan team has now been pushed to the bottom i.e. 9th position in the points table with a percentage of 4.63 points. In the ongoing World Test Championship cycle, Pakistan has won only 2 out of the 9 Test matches played so far, while facing defeat in 7 matches. Amidst this situation, now all the doors for Pakistan to reach the WTC final are almost closed.

According to ICC rules, if a team does not complete the overs in the stipulated time, its players are fined 5 percent of the match fee for each short over (which can be up to a maximum of 50 percent). Apart from this, under the World Test Championship, every fewer overs bowled deducts 1 point from the team. Due to 11 overs less, Pakistan has lost 11 points from its account.

The international fiasco regarding the Mohsin Naqvi Trophy, the 0-3 clean sweep in the home/away series against England and now the double attack by the ICC has put both the Pakistan Cricket Board and the team on the back foot. Pakistan will now play a two-Test home series against Sri Lanka in November in Rawalpindi and Lahore.
