The schedule for the Preliminary Eligibility Test (PET) has been released for lakhs of candidates in UP. The Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC) has announced the dates for UP PET 2026. This time, the exam will be conducted over three days, from October 23 to October 25. Due to the large number of candidates, the exam will be held in two shifts daily. Admit cards for registered candidates will be issued a few days before the exam. For which government jobs is UP PET mandatory?
To participate in various Group-C recruitment drives in Uttar Pradesh—such as those for Lekhpal, Village Development Officer (VDO), Junior Assistant, and X-ray Technician—candidates must first qualify for the PET. Applications for these UPSSSC recruitments cannot be submitted without passing the PET. Essentially, it acts as a filter that eliminates more than half of the candidates early on, preventing lakhs of aspirants from crowding the actual recruitment exam simultaneously.

What is the exam pattern?
Regarding the UP PET pattern, the exam is conducted offline—in pen-and-paper mode. It consists of 100 questions, with one mark awarded for each correct answer, making it a 100-mark paper. Candidates are allotted two hours for the exam, and there is a negative marking provision (0.25 marks) for incorrect answers. The exam covers topics such as reasoning, current affairs, general awareness, Indian history, elementary mathematics, general science, geography, Hindi, and the Indian economy.

What is the exam timing?

The examination will be conducted in two shifts daily over a period of three days.
The first shift will take place from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
The second shift will be held from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

**Eligibility for 10th-Pass Candidates**
Candidates who have passed the 10th standard are also eligible to apply for the UP PET. The age limit is set between 18 and 40 years, with age relaxations provided to reserved categories in accordance with the rules. However, once qualified, the UP PET scorecard remains valid for only one year. This means candidates must first clear the PET to be eligible for UPSSSC recruitment drives announced throughout the year.
