There is important news for employees and their families who avail of the social security and healthcare benefits provided by the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC). The Ministry of Labour and Employment has issued an official statement clarifying that Aadhaar seeding with the ESIC identity card has now been made mandatory under Section 142 of the Code on Social Security, 2020.
If you are registered under the ESIC scheme, you must complete your Aadhaar authentication in a timely manner to ensure uninterrupted access to medical and financial benefits.
**Who is eligible for ESIC benefits?**
The ESIC provides comprehensive social security and free healthcare facilities to eligible employees—and their families—working in factories, private companies, and the organized sector across the country. Generally, employees with a monthly basic salary of up to ₹21,000 are covered under this scheme. However, for employees with disabilities, the monthly salary limit is set at ₹25,000.
**How to link your ESIC card with Aadhaar online**
First, visit the official ESIC website. On the homepage, click on the 'Insured Person/Beneficiary' option. Log in to your account using your User ID and password. Select the 'Aadhaar Seeding for IP' option from the menu. Locate your name in the beneficiary list and click on the 'Click Here to Seed Aadhaar' link next to it. Enter your Aadhaar number and complete the authentication process by entering the OTP sent to the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar. Once the authentication is submitted, a reference number will be generated on the screen. After departmental verification, your Aadhaar number will be successfully linked with ESIC records.
**Why is Aadhaar seeding necessary?**
According to the Ministry, the primary objective of linking Aadhaar with the ESIC identity card is to verify genuine beneficiaries and ensure transparency in service delivery. Linking Aadhaar ensures that beneficiaries can easily access services—such as medical check-ups, hospitalization, maternity benefits, financial assistance during illness or temporary disablement, and pensions for dependents in the event of an employee's accidental death—without facing technical hurdles.
