Alvaro Morata has explained why his time at Como did not unfold as he had hoped, while also speaking warmly about Spanish coach Cesc Fabregas.

Speaking to El Larguero on Cadena Ser, the former Como forward said he decided to move back to Spain in the summer and join Leganes on loan with an option to buy. His spell with the Italian side, he said, had not developed in the way he expected.

The former AC Milan and Juventus striker again said that everything had gone wrong and revealed that, after several conversations with Fabregas, both men came to the conclusion that going their separate ways was the best solution. Even so, Morata was full of admiration for the Spaniard and said he believes Fabregas is destined to manage a major club.

“It was not the right situation for me to stay.”

“In the end, Fabregas and I spoke a lot. I did not feel it was the right situation for me to remain. Last year I started well until I got injured. It was a very serious injury and I had never suffered an injury like that before.”

“He will stay for as long as he wants, but he is ready for a big club.”

“He is a very good manager. I have no doubt that he will remain at Como for as long as he wants, because I believe he is already more than ready for any top-level team in world football.”

“I thank him, he did so much for me.”

“I consider Fabregas to be a very intelligent person and he learned from Conte, Mourinho and Guardiola as well. I think that, in the end, he has a bit of all of them. From a distance, all I can do is support him and thank him, as always, for everything he has done for me.”
