Under this government initiative, plans are being made to provide affordable rental housing to economically weaker individuals—such as laborers, street vendors, and working women—who migrate to cities in search of work but often cannot afford decent accommodation due to high rents. This scheme specifically targets urban workers, including daily wage earners.

Under this scheme for subsidized rental housing in cities, laborers, street vendors, and working women who have migrated for employment will be provided with modern, permanent (pucca) houses at low rents.

**Who is eligible for affordable rental housing?**
Affordable rental housing under this government scheme will be available to families belonging to economically weaker sections and low-income groups who have moved to cities in search of employment. Beneficiaries will include construction workers, street vendors, auto-rickshaw drivers, women running small businesses, and contractual employees.

**Conditions for availing affordable rental housing**
In addition to the criteria regarding employment and economic status, there are specific conditions for this scheme. Individuals who do not own a permanent house in their name are eligible to apply. Applicants must possess an Aadhaar card. Furthermore, priority will be given to those who have not availed benefits from any Central or State government housing scheme in the last 20 years. This means that if an individual has already built a permanent house in their village under the 'Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana', they will not be eligible for this scheme.

**Facilities provided in affordable rental housing**
These affordable rental units will be equipped with modern amenities. The housing units will feature 24-hour water supply and proper sewage and drainage systems. Additionally, the housing complex will be provided with paved roads, street lighting, and primary health centers.
