Crystal Palace striker Eddie Nketiah is considering his international future after Ghana made a fresh attempt to win his commitment. Although he has previously played for England at senior level, the forward is still eligible to switch to the Black Stars under existing FIFA rules, leaving him with an important call to make over his long-term international career.

Ghana have revived their pursuit.

According to the Evening Standard, Nketiah is weighing up a new offer to change his international allegiance from England to Ghana. Ghana have held a long-term interest in the former Arsenal forward and have now made another approach in an effort to convince him to play for the Black Stars.

Born in Lewisham to Ghanaian parents, Nketiah represented England at youth level and scored more goals than any other player for the England Under-21 side. The 27-year-old has not yet reached a final decision on whether he will play for the country of his parents' birth as he continues to assess his options.

There is a clear route under FIFA regulations.

The forward received his first and, so far, only senior England cap under Gareth Southgate in October 2023. He came on for Ollie Watkins in the 73rd minute of a 1-0 friendly victory over Australia at Wembley Stadium.

However, current FIFA regulations say a player must have featured in more than three competitive senior matches for one country before the age of 21 to become ineligible to switch to another nation. Since his only appearance came in a friendly, Nketiah remains fully eligible to represent Ghana if he chooses to change allegiance.

Nketiah has also made an encouraging start at Crystal Palace.

Ghana are keen to add more established Premier League quality to a squad that already includes Manchester City winger Antoine Semenyo and Coventry midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi. After enduring a difficult year because of injuries, Nketiah has started well under new Palace manager Pierre Sage, beginning all three of the club's Premier League matches so far this season.

Palace have handled a challenging opening to the campaign well and booked their place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with a comfortable 3-0 home win against Championship promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough on Tuesday night.

A major decision is drawing near.

With domestic football gathering pace, Nketiah has reached a crucial stage in his career. Regular performances for Crystal Palace will certainly keep him in the thoughts of both national teams. The striker must now decide whether to commit his international future to Ghana and become part of their upcoming qualification campaigns, or continue hoping for another opportunity with the England set-up.
