Chennai, Sept 10:
India T20I vice-captain Tilak Varma has shifted his focus to the upcoming three-match series against Afghanistan after his South Zone side’s difficult campaign in the Duleep Trophy. He said his immediate goal is to help India win the series.
“My goal now is to win the Afghanistan series,” Tilak said after the fourth day of the Duleep Trophy final. He added that he was confident about switching from red-ball cricket to the white-ball format with a couple of days of practice.
India will begin the Afghanistan series with the first T20I in New Delhi on September 13. Tilak said the change in format was not new to him, having moved between domestic red-ball cricket and international white-ball cricket in the past.
The 23-year-old also said red-ball cricket remains his favourite format and his “A Game”, even though he has developed into an effective white-ball player. His recent leadership assignments with India A against Sri Lanka A and South Zone have also provided valuable experience.
