To compile the rankings, Time Out asked city residents about factors including the affordability of nights out and whether their city feels lively, diverse and safe after dark.
A total of 73% of Bangkok residents rated the city’s nightlife as good or amazing, while Time Out’s experts praised its variety, from rooftop venues and dive bars to a wide range of other options.
Bangkok has 1,091 registered entertainment venues under the supervision of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), according to city statistics.

Berlin, renowned with its clubbing scene, came in second, with 78% of local residents giving its nightlife a high rating.
New York City took third place, with Time Out highlighting its ever-evolving nightlife scene, which offers everything from casual wine bars to late-night warehouse raves.
Melbourne in Australia and São Paulo in Brazil rounded out the top five.
