The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched new tools for face authentication. These tools will enable banks, fintech companies, and other entities in the financial sector to perform customer face authentication directly from their own servers, thereby simplifying the verification process. The Aadhaar Face Authentication Software Development Kit (SDK) and Sandbox were launched at the Global Fintech Fest 2026.

This will allow ecosystem partners—such as banks, fintech firms, and other financial sector companies—to easily integrate, test, and deploy Aadhaar face authentication within their digital applications.

**Features of UIDAI’s New Tools**
The Aadhaar Face Authentication SDK brings UIDAI’s face authentication capabilities directly into native Android and iOS apps. This eliminates the need for users to switch between different apps, providing a seamless, single-app authentication experience.

According to the PIB, this ready-to-use SDK simplifies integration for ecosystem partners and incorporates AI/ML-based liveness and anti-spoofing capabilities.

It supports secure handling of authentication data and encryption, and is designed to function across a wide range of consumer smartphones. The SDK is expected to assist government departments, banks, fintech companies, and other organizations in more effectively implementing face authentication services.

**Sandbox Also Launched**
Alongside the SDK, UIDAI has launched the Aadhaar Face Authentication Sandbox. This is a secure and controlled environment that allows organizations to integrate, test, and validate the entire face authentication process before deploying it to a live production environment.

The Sandbox enables developers and quality assurance teams to test key stages—including user provisioning and consent, face capture, liveness checks, authentication, error handling, and response validation—without requiring external biometric hardware. It also allows for testing failure scenarios such as invalid digital signatures, network disruptions, timeouts, and spoofing attempts.
