Welcome to our continuing live blog coverage of the opening matchweek of the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League.

Settle in for a string of cracking ties tonight, including holders PSG taking on Yaya Touré's Slovan Bratislava, last season's finalists Arsenal meeting Napoli, and Liverpool hosting Atlético de Madrid.

But first, Barcelona were at home to Feyenoord at Spotify Camp Nou, while Viking returned to the competition for the first time in more than 30 years against Stuttgart.

Hansi Flick and Giovanni van Bronckhorst named their XIs for Barcelona vs Feyenoord.

Stuttgart followed by confirming the XI charged with ruining Viking's long-awaited Champions League comeback.

Lamine Yamal looked set to make his usual impact at home and appeared up for it ahead of the early kick-off.

Viking's XI was also announced, and this is how De Mørkeblå lined up.

Heavy rain greeted Barça and Feyenoord in the opening minutes, after similar conditions in the build-up to kick-off.

We were about to find out how much the weather would influence proceedings.

What a way to open the scoring at Spotify Camp Nou.

A brilliant first touch from Raphinha allowed the Brazilian to beat his first marker, glide past two more and then finish expertly beyond Tjark Ernst to make it 1-0.

Raphinha has been outstanding for Barcelona in the early weeks of the 2026/27 season.

Lamine Yamal, who supplied the assist for Raphinha's strike, continues to light up European nights despite still being a teenager.

The home side moved in front against hopeful visitors Viking, with Ermedin Demirović scoring Stuttgart's opener just after the 20-minute mark.

GOAL!!! BARCELONA 2-0 FEYENOORD

Hansi Flick's side were cruising.

Karim Adeyemi smashed in a superb effort of his own to double Barça's lead before 25 minutes had been played.

The German forward's lovely curling strike from distance left Ernst with no chance.

GOAL!!!!! STUTTGART 1-1 VIKING

Club legend Zlatko Tripić brought Viking level only minutes after Demirović's opener.

GOAL!!! STUTTGART 2-1 VIKING

Die Schwaben restored their lead in what had become six mad minutes in Baden-Württemberg.

It was Demirović again, completing his brace on the night.

Were Viking disappearing without a trace? Demirović completed his first-half hat-trick.

He became the first Stuttgart player in club history to score a Champions League hat-trick, moving beyond the overall Champions League goal tallies of former club favourites Mario Gómez and Kevin Kurányi.

HALF-TIME

Barcelona looked completely comfortable at the break with a 2-0 lead over Feyenoord.

A historic night for Ermedin Demirović had taken Stuttgart into a 3-1 lead against Viking.

SECOND HALF

We were back under way in both early fixtures.

Lamine Yamal bent home a magnificent free-kick, leaving Ernst rooted to the spot.

It was a scoreline and performance the Spanish giants fully deserved.

They may have taken a heavy beating, but Feyenoord at least had something to show for their efforts on a rain-soaked pitch as Sem Steijn finished from Gonçalo Borges' pass to make it 4-1.

Gabriel Jesus scored his first Barcelona goal since his summer move from Arsenal, netting with his first touch after coming on.

Yamal was the provider once more, taking his tally to two assists for the evening.

It was a superb night for Barcelona, one of the favourites for the tournament, as they tore Feyenoord apart with ruthless efficiency, with Raphinha and Lamine Yamal the standout performers.

Ermedin Demirović's hat-trick proved decisive in Stuttgart as the home side marked their long-awaited Champions League return with victory over Viking.

Before the next round of fixtures, a reminder that Ivorian legend, former Manchester City great and current Slovan Bratislava manager Yaya Touré became the first African manager ever to take charge of a Champions League match in the competition's history.

Fresh from retiring from international football with Spain, Marcos Llorente was the key man as he finished from Julián Alvarez's delivery to put the Rojiblancos ahead.

The Champions League holders took the expected lead in the French capital, and, yes, it was Ousmane Dembélé who got the opener.

The Portuguese side were back on level terms.

The champions were moving smoothly through the gears at Parc des Princes, with Dembélé completing his first-half brace inside the opening 25 minutes.

It threatened to become a very, very long evening for Yaya Touré's Belasí.

Ferran Torres scored the third just after the half-hour mark.

The Reds responded at their famous home ground to draw level against Atleti, and it was Hungary star Dominik Szoboszlai who once again delivered in a big moment for Liverpool.

Alexis Mac Allister struck brilliantly to put the Premier League side in front on the night.

A major worry for Liverpool followed as star summer signing Bradley Barcola stayed down on the pitch.

Barcola was then taken off as one of two changes made by Iraola.

Arsenal narrowly beat Napoli to get their new Champions League campaign up and running.

Liverpool did well to come from behind and collect three points against Atlético de Madrid at Anfield.

Sporting made an excellent start as they beat visiting Galatasaray with a comeback victory.
