New Delhi: About 16-17 hours have passed since the collapse of a five-storey building in South Delhi's Satya Niketan, but the search is still going on considering the possibility of some other life under the debris. So far, 6 people have been confirmed dead in the accident, while 11 people have been pulled out from the debris. After the rescue operation that went on throughout the night, the administration is now keeping an eye on the safety of the surrounding buildings.

So far 6 people have died in the accident

The death toll in the Satya Niketan building accident has increased to 6. Of these, 5 people were taken to the hospital after being pulled from the debris, where doctors declared them dead. Meanwhile, another injured person died during treatment in the hospital.

11 people were pulled out of the debris

The rescue team has so far pulled out a total of 11 people from the debris. Even at night, the rescue team pulled out a person from the debris and took him to the hospital, but the doctors could not save him. At present, a search operation is going on due to the possibility of someone else being buried under the debris.

FIR against building owner and others

Police have registered FIR number 153/2026 regarding the accident. The case has been registered in South Campus police station area. The police have also made the building owner Hariram and some other people accused. Efforts are being made to trace the accused along with investigation of the case.

Case in three sections of BNS

Police have registered a case against the accused under sections 105, 290 and 125(a) of the Indian Justice Code i.e. BNS. These sections relate to culpable homicide, negligence during construction or repair and any negligent act which endangers the life or safety of any person and causes injury.

The building was being used as PG

According to initial police information, the building where the accident took place was being used as a PG. It is being told that renovation or construction work was going on on the ground floor. It is suspected that during this time the entire building collapsed due to weakening of the structure.

Order to vacate the adjacent building also

After the accident, MCD has started safety check of nearby buildings. Building/House No. immediately adjacent to the accident. 13 have been described as dilapidated and dangerous. MCD has given notice to the people living there to vacate the premises.

According to the notice, orders have been given to vacate the building within 3 days and demolish it. If action is not taken within the stipulated time, MCD can demolish the building itself and its expenses will be recovered from the person concerned.

Action on illegal buildings of more than four floors

After the Satya Niketan accident, MCD has directed to immediately seal illegally constructed buildings of more than four floors. Delhi Mayor Parvesh Wahi said that the responsibility of the officials who were negligent in stopping illegal construction will also be fixed. Strict action will be taken against the guilty officers, which may even include dismissal.

Search for the accused and search in the debris continues

Police have deployed several teams to search for the accused. At the same time, the rescue team is carefully removing every part of the debris and examining it, so that if any other person is buried, he can be taken out in time. At present the priority is to complete the rescue operation.

After the accident, not only the search for lives trapped under the debris, but also the safety of the surrounding buildings has become a big issue. The investigation will try to find out why the five-storey building collapsed and what level of negligence took place during construction or repair. Further action will be decided on this basis.
