Kanpur Forced Conversion: A huge controversy has erupted over the construction of a shrine next to a temple in Gujaini area of Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur city. In this matter, serious allegations of forcible conversion and violent attacks have come to light. The victim’s Dalit family has claimed that his wife was forced to wear the veil and threatened with death for not converting. As soon as this incident came to know, the workers of Hindu organizations surrounded the local police station and registered a huge protest. As the situation escalated, the police arrested the main accused and suspended a sub-inspector for dereliction of duty with immediate effect.
After buying a house, the children fall ill and the plot is hatched
According to the victim Sonu Jatav, originally a resident of Jalaun, he bought a land in Gujaini area from a person named Shibu Khan for Rs 40000 about 2 years ago. He lived with his family by making 1 room on this land. After some time his children started falling sick continuously, taking advantage of which Shibu Khan and his associates tried to deceive him. The victim alleged that a shrine was built in the room of her house next to the place of worship. At first he did not protest, but later he was forced to convert to Islam when he demanded the removal of the shrine.
Forced to wear veil and attack on family during night
Sonu’s serious allegation is that the pressure was not limited to Mazhar, but his wife Rita was forced to wear the burqa. The dispute turned more violent when the family strongly protested the matter. According to the victim, Shibu Khan and his accomplices attacked his house with sticks and weapons on Monday night. The assailants brutally beat up Sonu, his wife and his 3 innocent children. Due to this sudden attack, the victim’s family came under great fear.
Aggressive attitude of Hindu organizations after police inaction
After the incident, the victim Sonu reached the local police outpost and police station for help. But Sonu alleges that instead of taking action against the culprits, the inspector present threatened him to cool the case and not to break the silence. Not getting justice from the police, Sonu approached Bajrang Dal and other Hindu organizations. As soon as the incident was reported, hundreds of activists reached the spot and after searching the house, surrounded the police station and created a big ruckus. After the intervention of higher authorities, the police finally registered the crime and started the proceedings.
Arrest of main accused and suspension of sub-inspector
DCP Dipendra Nath Chaudhary said that based on the complaint of the victim, an FIR has been lodged against people including Shibu, Sameem Khan, Wasim, Reebu, Furkhan, Sohail Khan and Sumit. Police have arrested the prime accused Shibu, while four other suspects are being detained and questioned. 1 sub-inspector has been attached to the line and suspended for negligence in the procedure. The victim also alleged that during the Janmashtami festival in the month of August, even when the worship of Lord Krishna was going on at his house, the accused forcibly put a sheet on the shrine. The police is currently conducting a thorough investigation in this regard.
