In a Champions League-only match-week, all games will observe a minute’s silence.

With no other European fixtures apart from Champions League matches scheduled this week, every game will hold a minute’s silence before kick-off.

As reported by Henry Winter, the tribute is being held in memory of those who lost their lives in a series of devastating flash floods in Nepal, and banners carrying the message, "You are not alone, Nepal," will also be displayed.

On September 7, Nepal observed a national day of mourning for those killed in the floods. The death toll is estimated to be at least 1355, while more than 5000 people are still missing.

Candlelight vigils were held on Monday evening as rescue teams continued their search for survivors.

The floods are thought to have been caused by a glacial collapse. It has now been two weeks since the disaster, and Monday marked the final day of the traditional 13-day Hindu mourning period.

This development comes after it was confirmed that Premier League and EFL fixtures this weekend would not include a minute’s silence for the victims of 9/11.

Sixty-seven British citizens died in the terror attacks in the United States of America on September 11, 2001.

Conversely, this week’s Champions League matches will honour those who lost their lives across the Nepal-Tibet border region.

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said: "The entire European football family will stand together before this week's matches to express our deepest condolences and our support to the people of Nepal.

"We wish them strength and resilience as they continue to recover from this tragedy and its aftermath," he added.

The minute’s silences and the raised banners are meant to help maintain international awareness of Nepal’s situation, supporting efforts to locate flood survivors who are still missing.

Last Saturday, rescuers recovered a 64-year-old Nepali woman alive from her buried home in Nuwakot district, more than 10 days after it had been submerged.

In Nepal, at least 5000 people remain missing, while more than 500 are still unaccounted for in Tibet. All 36 teams across 18 Champions League matches will be in action this week, and a minute’s silence will be observed before every fixture.
