Manchester United youngster Finley McAllister has completed a loan move to National League North club Radcliffe FC.

United officially confirmed the temporary switch, stating that McAllister “has agreed a month-long youth loan to Radcliffe FC, subject to registration.”

Radcliffe have also announced that he “will wear the number 34 shirt.” The Greater Manchester side have moved quickly to involve the midfielder, naming him on the bench for tonight’s home match against Hebburn Town.

The National League operates under a different transfer window system from the Premier League, which has made the move possible.

McAllister has spent the past few years with United’s Under-18s and Under-21s challenging for honours, but this loan will present a very different test. The Salford-born midfielder, who captained the club at Under-18 level, led the young Red Devils to a treble in the 2023/24 season as they won Premier League North before beating Chelsea in the Premier League National final.

United then sealed that treble with a 2-1 victory over Manchester City in the Premier League Cup final.

At the other end of the standings, Radcliffe have made a poor start to the season, managing only one win from seven matches and sitting bottom of the National League North table.

Radcliffe are also without a permanent manager after Bernard Morley stepped down last month, adding another layer of difficulty to McAllister’s task of making an impact.

This is McAllister’s first loan spell away from United and offers him an opportunity to make the step into first-team football. A United supporter, he has regularly been seen among the club’s away following and has represented United since a young age.

He was highly regarded coming through the ranks, captained United’s youth teams and made his Under-18 debut when he was only 14 years old.

His achievements at youth level also extend to the international stage. Capped by England up to Under-18 level, he has also captained his country and featured at the Under-17 World Cup and Euro Cup.

A no-nonsense midfielder, the 20-year-old offers an old-school style of play that is reminiscent of former United captains. McAllister’s work rate also gives him versatility, with the player equally comfortable at right-back.

Never afraid to put in a challenge, McAllister likes to cover ground in midfield and compete in a high number of duels. It is an approach that helped him thrive at Under-18 level, although he has found it harder to reproduce it fully at Under-21 level as the speed of matches increased.

This loan will now provide another examination of his ability to adjust to the quicker tempo of first-team football.
