The information comes from Spotify's annual Loud & Clear report, which tracks Spotify's distribution of more than $11 billion in global music royalties through 2025, bringing the platform's total to date to nearly $70 billion.
Fast discovery of Indian music
In 2025, audiences worldwide listened to songs by Indian artists 12.8 billion times, never heard before. This is 14 percent more than the previous year. Listeners are rapidly discovering Indian music in various languages and genres, which no other cultural export in the world can match. This discovery is transforming into deeper listening. Last year, songs by artists in India were listened to nearly 335 billion times on Spotify, including more than 20 billion hours of total listening time.
Royalties earned by artists in India on Spotify are set to grow by 29 percent on an annual basis in 2025. In fact, the number of artists earning more than Rs 10 million in annual royalties has increased by 21 percent on a year-on-year basis. The number of people earning more than Rs 50 million has doubled since 2023. This growth is not limited to the top tier but is spreading across artists, languages and genres of music.
Artists from India rule the charts on their own terms
In 2025, 90 percent of the songs in Spotify India's Daily Top 50 were by Indian artists. Popular Indian music released outside of i-pop or movie soundtracks accounted for half of Spotify's 2025 year-end top ten in India. Which included hit songs by Aditya Rikhari, Kushagra, Anuv Jain, Faheem Abdullah and Jasleen Royal along with the country's biggest film soundtrack. Interestingly, Rikhari's independent track “Sahiba” created history in 2025 by holding the number one spot on Spotify India for more than 11 consecutive weeks.

Talking about his journey, artiste Aditya Rikhari said, “Streaming changed the scale of what was possible for me as an independent artist. Even songs that started on a personal level, sometimes long after their release, reached audiences across the country. Dhruvank Vaidya, head of music and podcasts, Spotify India, said: “In 2025, 14 per cent more listeners globally discovered an Indian artist for the first time on Spotify, and the listening experience was profound. Artists in India generated nearly 335 billion streams on the platform last year, comprising more than 20 billion hours of listening time, as well as a 29 per cent increase in royalties, with growth in every major Indian language.
