According to the report, the state government has to take new loans to pay the old debt and the interest on it. From the recently submitted CAG report, it is clear that the debt burden on the state is continuously increasing. According to the data, between 2020-21 and 2024-25, 53 to 67 per cent of the new loans taken by the Haryana government were spent on repayment of old loans and interest payments. Before that, during the period 2015 to 2020, the ratio was only between 19 and 50 percent.

1 lakh crore loan in 5 years
According to CAG data, Haryana's internal debt has increased to Rs 3.11 lakh crore in the financial year 2024-25. Five years ago, i.e. in 2020-21, this debt was Rs 2.04 lakh crore. As a result, the internal debt of the state has increased by Rs 1.07 lakh crore or about 52.24 percent in five years. In the financial year 2024-25 alone, the government had to pay interest of Rs 21,936 crore on this internal debt.

Haryana's total outstanding fiscal debt has also increased sharply. In 2015-16, the state's debt stood at Rs 1.21 lakh crore. It has increased to Rs 3.61 lakh crore in 2024-25.

21,725 crore to be paid every year
- The report also gave a dire warning about future debt repayments. According to the figures, the government has to repay the loan from 2024-25 to 2034-35, of which Rs 23,959 crore is due in 2025-26. Apart from this, other debts of Rs 1.28 lakh crore have to be settled.
- Also, a total of Rs 1.64 lakh crore is owed to the government during the period 2026-27 to 2031-32. Analyzing the data, till 2032 i.e. in the next 7 years, the Haryana government will have to spend an average of Rs 21,725 crores annually for debt repayment. Therefore, there is a possibility of huge financial pressure on the state exchequer. '
