New Delhi, 8 September 2026: This has led to the launch of satellite broadband services by leading companies like Starlink, OneWeb and Reliance Jio in India. According to official sources, the Committee of Secretaries has approved the recommendations of 'TRAI' regarding satellite spectrum allocation. Earlier, a meeting of Digital Communication Commission was also organized in this matter. However, for the implementation of this entire proposal, the government will now have to take final approval from the Cabinet.
Last year, TRAI had submitted recommendations regarding satellite spectrum allocation, which have now received official approval. Under this approval, spectrum will be allotted to telecom and satellite companies for 5 years. In return, companies will have to pay spectrum usage charge (SUC) equal to 5 percent of their adjusted gross revenue (AGR). This SUC charge will be kept relatively low for companies providing satellite broadband services in rural and interior areas, so that digital internet activity can be accelerated. This new policy of the government will pave the way for high-speed internet services to be available in remote areas of India, which will bring a big change in the digital infrastructure of the country.
