Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) was detained by police in Hyderabad on Tuesday as he alleged that Telangana Police were facilitating the movement of Congress workers and leaders towards former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s (KCR) residence.
KTR claimed that while Congress workers and leaders were allowed to proceed towards KCR’s residence, BRS leaders and workers were being prevented by police.
He said, “Police are facilitating Congress goons and rowdies who have been externed from the city, escorting them right up to KCR gari residence. But when I try to go to my own home, I am being stopped along with our party leaders and workers.”
KTR further alleged that police were “paving the way for an attack on KCR’s residence” by erecting barricades and aiding the movement of Congress workers.
He added, “Congress workers, leaders and MLAs are being allowed to reach KCR’s residence. Even large groups brought in from neighboring districts are being allowed to proceed towards his residence, while our party leaders are being stopped. What kind of justice is this?”
KTR warned that the government and police would be held responsible if any untoward incident occurred at KCR’s residence. He stated, “If anything happens to KCR, the government and the entire police machinery will be held completely responsible.”
Earlier on Tuesday, KTR, senior leader T Harish Rao and other party MLAs attempted to proceed on foot towards Erravelli after police stopped their vehicles near Hakimpet amid heightened tensions over their proposed visit to support KCR.
Police had deployed heavily at Bollaram crossroads and prevented BRS MLAs from proceeding towards Erravelli, where KCR is located. In response, KTR, Harish Rao and other BRS legislators began walking towards Erravelli.
The BRS accused police of attempting to arrest its MLAs en route to Erravelli to “protect” KCR, while Congress leaders allegedly heading towards the area were allowed to move without hindrance.
Separately, Tata Madhu was arrested by Saifabad Police in connection with a case filed over alleged derogatory and abusive remarks against Telangana Legislative Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar. Police officials stated that Madhu was arrested at 7 am on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka visited Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar at his chamber on Tuesday to express solidarity following the turbulent events on the first day of the Assembly session.
