PM Modi Event: Man Posing As PMO Official Detained In Mumbai, Gun Recovered

Two people have been detained at the venue in Mumbai where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend an event. A gun was recovered from one of them, the Mumbai Police said.

The incident was reported at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). The detained individual had claimed to be an official of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

Fake PMO ID Card Recovered

The detained youth has been identified as 24-year-old Rohan Parekh. Sources said he was also carrying a fake PMO ID card.

Security personnel verified the card and found it to be fake, according to the information provided.

Parekh was accompanied by a bodyguard who was carrying a gun. The Mumbai Crime Branch is conducting further investigation into the matter.

The Mumbai Police said, “Two individuals have been detained from the venue in Mumbai where Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to attend an event. A gun was recovered from one of the individuals.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the seventh edition of the Global FinTech Fest (GFF) 2026 in Mumbai on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at around 5:45 pm.

GFF is described as one of the world’s largest and most influential annual conferences related to financial technology. Since 2020, the event has emerged as an international platform where policymakers, regulators, central banks, financial institutions, fintech companies, technology companies, investors, academics and other global stakeholders deliberate on issues shaping the future of the finance sector.

GFF 2026 aims to turn potential into concrete results by advancing India’s leadership in digital payments and financial inclusion.

The conference will discuss how agentic AI, programmable financial instruments, quantum technology and other emerging technologies can help deliver trustworthy, inclusive and measurable outcomes for citizens, enterprises and economies worldwide.

PM Modi’s Vadodara Visit

Before travelling to Mumbai, PM Modi will be in Vadodara, where he will dedicate three key sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) to the nation.

The three sections span 326 kilometres and have been developed at a cost of over ₹20,700 crore.

These include the New Sanand (North)-New Makarpura, New Umbergaon-New Safale, and New Safale-New JNPT sections.

The Mumbai Crime Branch is continuing its investigation into the detention of Rohan Parekh, the alleged fake PMO identity card and the recovery of the gun.
