Ludhiana, Read. The month of August was worrying in terms of crime in the industrial city Ludhiana. According to police records, a total of 653 cases were registered in 28 police stations of the city from August 1 to 31. Incidents of theft, snatching, vehicle theft and firing have increased concerns about law and order. It has also come to light that 41 bullets were fired in the firing incidents that took place in different areas.

Police station Dugri and Division No. 8 area were the most affected in terms of incidents of theft and snatching. According to police records, out of a total of 23 cases of theft, eight were registered in Dugri, six in Sahnewal, five in Division No. 4 and four in Haibowal. Of the 14 cases of vehicle theft, five were reported in Division No. 5, three in Division No. 8, two in Model Town and four in other police stations.

Dugri and Division No. 8 areas also remained prominent in the cases of robbery and snatching. According to the available data, six cases were registered in Dugri, five in Division No. 8, four in Dekal and three in Division No. 4. However, the total of these figures is 18, while a total of 11 cases are reported in the details. This figure needs to be confirmed with police records.

Eight incidents of firing

Eight incidents of firing were recorded in different areas of the city in August. These include one case each in Sarabha, Dugri, Tibba and Kotwali police station areas. A total of 41 bullets were fired in these incidents, which has increased concerns about armed crime in the city.

Incidents increased in the last days of the month

According to police records, 19 incidents of theft and snatching were registered between August 1 and 11. After this, nine cases were reported between August 21 and 24, while in just six days between August 26 and 31, 10 major incidents of theft, snatching and attempted robbery were registered.

Several major incidents in August also raised concerns in the city. Goods worth about Rs 7.5 lakh were stolen by breaking the locks of a locked house in Cantonment locality of Police Station Division No. 4. Ramanjit Singh, accused in the case of attack on a cashier posted in Punjab National Bank, was allegedly caught red-handed by the people.

The police have arrested the accused in many cases and taken action, but the accused in some incidents are said to be still absconding. Amidst the continuous incidents, people have demanded to increase patrolling at night, strengthen surveillance on suspicious people and increase police presence in sensitive areas.
