When you place the phone upright, i.e. with the screen up, the entire weight of the phone falls on the camera glass that supports it. Scratches can occur on the camera lens while sliding the phone on the table, which can permanently blur the camera of an expensive phone. Keeping the screen down will keep the camera facing up and not in direct contact with the table.

iPhone’s ‘Facedown Detection’ feature and battery saving

iPhone and many premium smartphones have a special in-built feature called ‘Facedown Detection’. As soon as you place the phone screen down on the table, the Ambient Light and Proximity Sensor in the phone recognize it. After this, even if any message or notification comes, the screen of the phone does not turn on. Hundreds of times throughout the day without turning on due to no screen also saves a lot of mobile battery.

Important tips to protect the display from damage

To keep the display safe while keeping the phone screen down, a good quality tempered glass should always be installed on it. Also, use a back cover whose edges are slightly higher than the screen. This keeps the screen from directly touching the table surface and keeps the phone safe even when the phone is upside down.
