Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday visited the grand exhibition organized by Saraf Mandal Dehradun at the hotel located on Rajpur Road, Dehradun. During this, the Chief Minister observed various types of jewellery, traditional designs and the art and skills of goldsmiths displayed in the exhibition and congratulated the organizers and the goldsmith community for this event.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that such events are an important medium to give a new identity to Indian art, culture, tradition and local skills. The goldsmith society not only manufactures jewellery, but also does the important work of preserving the glorious tradition and cultural heritage of India and passing it on from generation to generation. Jewelery has been a symbol of our traditions, sentiments and cultural identity on every auspicious occasion of our lives including marriages, festivals and religious rituals.

Getting new identity and new opportunities

The Chief Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, through initiatives like 'Vocal for Local', 'Make in India', 'Made in India' and 'Startup India', the country's artisans, local products and indigenous skills are getting new identity and new opportunities. In line with the goal of 'Developed India-2047', continuous efforts are being made to make India a major hub of global jewelery manufacturing and designing.

The Chief Minister said that the Uttarakhand government is also committed to encourage traditional skills, handicrafts and local artisans and also empower them through skill development and financial assistance. He said that the rich traditional jewelery of Uttarakhand – Garhwali Nath, Paunji, Champkali Haar, Kumaoni Guloband, Pichora Haar, Jhumka etc. needs to be recognized on the national and global platform.

New opportunities for employment and self-employment

He said that the goal of 'Local to Global' can be achieved by developing traditional designs as per modern needs and changing times. This will create new employment and self-employment opportunities for the local artisans and goldsmiths of Uttarakhand and the young generation will also be able to connect more with their rich culture and traditions.

Chief Minister Dhami said that the state government is committed to the conservation of traditional jewelery as well as skill development of the goldsmith community. In this direction, necessary plans will be prepared and effective steps will be taken to advance the goldsmiths and artisans.

The Chief Minister said that the state government is working with an 'optionless resolve' to make Uttarakhand the 'best state' of the country. He called for active cooperation and participation from the goldsmith community in realizing this resolution. On this occasion, officials and members of Saraf Mandal Dehradun, representatives of goldsmith society, jewelery businessmen, artisans and other dignitaries were present.
