Indian playback singer Shreya Ghoshal has opened up about how she manages the demanding nature of her music career while making time for her family, including her husband, Shiladitya Mukhopadhyaya, and their son.

Known as one of India's most celebrated voices, the 42-year-old singer has built an impressive career in the Indian music industry. Over the years, she has lent her voice to numerous hit films, including Devdas, Om Shanti Om, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, Bajirao Mastani, Vivah, Agneepath, Aashiqui 2 and Saiyaara.

With a career that involves recording sessions, concerts, travel and public appearances, maintaining a healthy work-life balance can be challenging. However, Shreya has revealed that her relationship with Shiladitya has played an important role in helping her manage her professional responsibilities alongside her role at home.

During a recent conversation on the Male Feminist Podcast, Shreya spoke candidly about her family life and explained how she and Shiladitya share responsibilities at home.

According to the singer, her husband is highly independent and is comfortable taking care of household tasks whenever she is busy with work. She explained that he handles things such as washing dishes and cleaning the kitchen without expecting her to take care of everything.

Shreya recalled that Shiladitya even gets upset when she tries to do those chores for him, as he prefers to manage them himself.

The singer also expressed gratitude for having a partner who understands the demands of her profession. Rather than questioning her absence or making her feel guilty about spending time away from home, Shiladitya has always given her the freedom and space to pursue her career.

For Shreya, that understanding has made it easier to maintain a strong relationship while continuing to focus on her work.

‘Our child is the centre of our universe’

Shreya further described the similarities between herself and her husband, saying that neither of them has an ego problem when it comes to their relationship or responsibilities.

She explained that both of them have a similar approach to life and family, which allows them to understand each other better. The singer also shared that they have become quieter as a couple over time and that their child has become the centre of their world.

Shreya and Shiladitya have a long history together. The couple were childhood friends and reportedly spent around a decade together before eventually getting married in 2015 in an intimate ceremony.

Shiladitya, who works in the technology sector, has largely maintained a private profile while supporting his wife throughout her successful musical journey.

In 2021, the couple welcomed their first child, a son named Devyaan. Since becoming parents, family life has remained an important part of Shreya’s world despite her busy professional schedule.

The singer’s recent comments offer a glimpse into the partnership behind her successful career. Her experience also highlights how mutual understanding, independence and shared responsibilities can help couples navigate the pressures of demanding careers while making family a priority.
