Curtis Jones has said he already feels completely at home at Inter after playing an important part in their remarkable 3-2 comeback win over Napoli. The former Liverpool midfielder praised his new manager Cristian Chivu and also pushed back against critics who describe Serie A as boring, insisting his new side have the tactical quality and fighting spirit needed to achieve major success.

Instant impact in Italy

Jones was introduced at half-time on Saturday and helped Inter recover from a two-goal deficit to claim an exciting 3-2 victory over Napoli at San Siro. Jones is clearly relishing his move into Italian football after leaving Liverpool in the summer. He also explained how quickly he has settled into the dressing room alongside players such as John Stones.

"I just feel at home with the lads. Since the first day, they've been unbelievable and so I can just be myself. Of course I've got a point to prove but I know that if I'm just myself, the lads will like me, the staff and the fans as well," Jones said.

Defending the league's reputation

After the dramatic victory, Jones strongly dismissed the stereotype that Italian football is less exciting than the Premier League. He was keen to underline the tactical depth and relentless nature of the league. "Some people say Serie A is boring and the Premier League isn't, but you didn't see that today," Jones said in a post-match press conference.

"There are great coaches here and so much tactics. Today was a beautiful match with plenty of chances, and the coach made several tactical adjustments that helped us win. Italian teams never surrender, it was a real spectacle." Inter have certainly displayed that fighting spirit under head coach Cristian Chivu.

High praise for Chivu

The bond between Jones and Chivu already looks to be a major reason behind his impressive beginning to life in Milan. Speaking to DAZN, Jones explained in detail why the manager was so important in convincing him to join the club. "There’s a reason I came here: the phone calls we had, how the team plays, his tactical ideas, and how he works every single day," Jones said.

"It’s the small things he says, things that might seem minor but end up having a massive impact. Plus, he has immense experience and played at the highest level himself. He’s managed the squad brilliantly. He’s ‘one of us,’ and to me, that’s fundamental."

Inter have very little time to enjoy their domestic success, with their attention now turning straight to European competition. The club are set for a huge Champions League meeting with Real Madrid on Tuesday, and Jones will hope his eye-catching cameo against Napoli has done enough to earn him a place in the starting XI.
