Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh are next year but Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made its entire new team. Now there is discussion that there may be many changes in the central government also. An interesting incident happened before this change. President Draupadi Murmu has appointed current Rajya Sabha MP and former Deputy CM of Uttar Pradesh Dinesh Sharma as the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman Nicobar. Earlier, Admiral DK Joshi was holding this responsibility since 2017. Earlier there was discussion that Dinesh Sharma may get an important role in the central government. Now it has become clear from this appointment that at least he is not in the race to become a minister.
Dinesh Sharma was appointed member of Rajya Sabha in September 2023 and was a member of Delhi Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council. He was also the Deputy Chief Minister from 2017 to 2022 in the Yogi Adityanath government. After the 2022 elections, Brajesh Pathak was made the Deputy CM in his place. In Rajya Sabha, he was also a member of the panel appointed by the Vice President. Apart from this, he was also a member of the Finance Committee, Official Language Committee and several other committees.
What did Dinesh Sharma say?
Dinesh Sharma has written on his appointment, 'Thanks to His Excellency the President, Honorable Prime Minister, Honorable Home Minister and the central leadership of the party. For this important responsibility, I express my heartfelt gratitude to all the respected seniors, well-wishers, friends and countrymen, who continuously inspired me with their good wishes and blessings. This is not just a post for me, but a big responsibility towards the Constitution, nation and public service. I pledge to discharge this responsibility with full devotion, honesty and dedication. May your love, trust and blessings always remain like this.
Dinesh Sharma, who is active in politics, has also been a professor of Lucknow University and mayor of Lucknow. In the year 2014, he was also made the National Vice President of BJP. The tenure of the seat from which he is the Rajya Sabha MP is till November 2026 but now he will have to resign.
It is believed that his appointment has been made due to the growing resentment of the Brahmin community. Dinesh Sharma, who is counted among the leaders with gentle image and calm character, has stayed away from controversies and has been working for BJP for a long time. Before the UP elections, BJP has also tried to increase the representation of Brahmins by giving them bigger posts.
