Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has now given his assessment of the night's standout performer:

"He’s a massive player for us. Probably my demands will not be [just] about the goals. My fights with him are more about other stuff, about how to help the team in situations but it’s good that he’s played a good amount of minutes and got the goals."

Goalscorer Alexander Isak is speaking to Sky Sports on the pitch at Portman Road.

On getting back to his best, he said: “This year finally I had a normal pre-season. Last year was not easy. It was a long injury, a difficult season in general. I was thinking just to have a good World Cup, and have a pre season. Last season now behind me, and it’s good.”

FULL TIME - IPSWICH 0-2 LIVERPOOL

Iraola has his first victory as Liverpool head coach, with Isak’s first-half brace making the difference. It was a more comfortable second half for the away side and they are now officially up and running.

The Premier League have now issued the official explanation for the decision not to award a penalty.

The call is confirmed: no penalty, because Dominik Szoboszlai was offside in the build-up.

Referee Darren England goes to the monitor to review both the penalty appeal and an offside decision at the other end that would cancel it out.

Szoboszlai had appealed for a penalty after going down under a challenge from Leif Davis, and the incident was sent to VAR for review.

Here he comes now. Bradley Barcola, along with Ryan Gravenberch, is sent on to replace Muñoz and Isak.

We may be about to get our first look at Barcola in the Premier League as he receives instructions from Iraola’s coaching staff.

Julio Enciso manages to get a shot away from outside the area, but Alisson gets down well to his left to make the save.

Another Liverpool player goes into the book, with Milos Kerkez penalised for his foul on Abdul Fatawu.

Fatawu tries his luck from distance, but the effort goes wide of the target.

In his very next involvement after being booked, Jacquet brings down Emersonn but avoids a second yellow despite Gary O'Neil's protests.

Alexis Mac Allister tries to threaten Kjell Scherpen’s goal from a corner that comes after a header, but the attempt is weak and the Ipswich goalkeeper gathers comfortably.

SECOND HALF

We are underway again.

It has been a highly dominant attacking display from Iraola’s team so far.

Liverpool go into the break with a two-goal lead, although Ipswich have still caused them a few uneasy moments. There certainly looks to be more goals in this match.

Szoboszlai takes the resulting free-kick and it drops kindly for Florian Wirtz, whose effort from 20 yards is dealt with by Scherpen.

Enciso is booked for delaying the taking of a free-kick.

Szoboszlai is keen to test Scherpen again with a strike from long range, but the Ipswich goalkeeper punches it clear with ease.

Isak thought he had completed his hat-trick after a very good move saw him played in by Wirtz, but the flag went up immediately for offside. Replays showed it was clearly the correct decision.

Iraola’s side come forward again, this time with Mac Allister trying his luck from distance, but the shot flies over.

Things are becoming a little nervy for the visitors as Davis heads over from a cross by Fatawu.

After a few false starts, Liverpool’s No. 9 is finally producing the goods.

Ipswich are finally able to regroup and come close, with Fatawu getting an effort away on goal, but it goes over.

It has happened again. Virtually the same combination and exactly the same result, as Isak doubles Liverpool’s advantage.

The deadlock is broken early and it is the visitors who strike through Isak. Liverpool’s record signing gets on the end of a clever pass from Cody Gakpo and beats Scherpen.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have drawn 2-2 in each of their last two matches, but there have been clear flashes of quality in those games against Newcastle and Nottingham Forest. Could Bradley Barcola’s arrival add another dimension to this Reds side?
